What is BriSCA Heat F2?

It is an addon to NASCAR Heat, and simulates BriSCA Formula Two stock car racing. It includes everything provided in earlier BH versions (and patches), plus a collection of new car models and skins.

Why can't I find NASCAR Heat in the shops in the UK?

Because unfortunately it was never released here.

Does BriSCA Heat F2 work with the warez version of NASCAR Heat?

I don't know and I don't care - the developers of NH, MGI, have have bent over backwards to make it possible for add-ons like BriSCA Heat F2 to be made. BH F2 itself is free, so please buy NH! (Any support questions about BH F2 working with the warez version of NH will be ignored.)

Can I damage my car?

Yes, you will fairly often suffer "aero" damage because I have been unable to work out how to reduce or turn this off; it has little if any effect on short tracks anyway. You can also suffer suspension damage (usually a wheel coming off!) which is much more serious, and basically finishes your race (although the car is still drivable) - I've tried to make the cars extremely strong though, and you have to have several big wall hits (or one or two enormous ones!) to suffer such damage. It should not affect the ability to use the bumper effectively at all.

I've installed BH, but when I double click the icon I get an error message.

Check the properties of your BriSCA Heat shortcut, it should be:

"C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat\NHeat.exe" -mod:efftwo -noautoplay

(It is important that it is exactly as above, including the quotation marks.)

If you have a "NASCAR Heat.exe" file instead of "NHeat.exe" rename it to "NHeat.exe".

I've installed BH F2, but when I double click the icon NASCAR Heat starts normally (i.e. NASCARs instead of BriSCA stock cars).

Try moving your "efftwo" folder into the "run" folder in your NASCAR Heat directory (and make sure your shortcut is correct as described above).

How can I take screenshots in the game?

Press the "Print Screen" key while the game is running (the best place is usually in a replay you have paused). The shot goes to the clipboard, so you can paste it into any paint application. You can Alt-Tab out of NASCAR Heat, run your paint program, then press CTRL-V (or Edit/Paste menu) to paste the picture into an image.

Why is the car so difficult to drive? It slides everywhere!

Because the real ones do too! Hardcore mode in BH F2 extremely realistic, and so is a car which has very little aero or mechanical grip very difficult to drive, especially if you don't have a steering wheel and pedals. The best advice I can give is to be smooth with all your control inputs, and, on short tracks like Martinsville especially, make sure you brake enough before corner entry, otherwise you will just understeer wide.

It is very easy to lock the front brakes (especially using a joypad or keyboard) so it may be worth tweaking the brake balance (50% works well for me, a lower number, for more rear brakes, may work better for non-wheel users).

Why are the paintjobs on the cars so blurry?

They're not, at least not on my system! Your problem is probably that your graphics card does not have enough video memory to store all the textures. There are a couple of things you can try:

  1. Edit your options.cfg file and change the "try_texture_compression" line to "yes".
  2. Reduce the display resolution used in the the game (e.g. try 640x480).
  3. Reduce the field size you are racing against (e.g. try 16 car fields).
  4. Get a new graphics card - NVidia cards work much better than Voodoo cards in NASCAR Heat.
