Nascar Heat Installation Guide
From CD
Put Nascar heat into the CD drive.
If you do not get the following screen appear, run NASCAR Heat.exe direct from the CD.
Click the SETUP button (the registration screen that comes up is optional, either complete it, or Cancel out). Select 'play from hard drive'. The 'desktop icon' option is recommended.
It is highly recommended that you install into the default location (C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat), as this is where all subsequent files will be looking to install.
You will now need to install the NASCAR Heat upgrade patch(multipatch_nocd.exe). (replaces individual patches 1.1, 1.3, and 1.5a, and removes the need to have the CD when playing).
Follow the instructions, clicking 'Next' when required(3 times), and Install when prompted.
To ensure smoother running later on, it is recommended that you delete the following files that are not required to run the game. Go to My Computer, C:, Program Files, Hasbro Interactive, NASCAR Heat, and delete the following files. Again if any do not exist, do not worry.
You will now need to check that your game works. Start the game by double clicking the NASCAR Heat icon on your desktop and click Play. Once at the main menu, click Options at the bottom of the screen. You should check that '1.5a' is written in the bottom right of the options screen.
If it is, you have installed the patches correctly. If not, try the patches again.
Install the '1.72e' patch (heatpatch1_72e.exe). Make sure you install it into the same directory as NH and the multipatch.
Start the game by double clicking the NASCAR Heat icon on your desktop and click Play. Once at the main menu, click Options at the bottom of the screen. You should check that '1.72e' is written in the bottom right of the options screen. If it is, you have installed the patches correctly. If not, try the patches again.
Whilst in the Options screen, configure the controls you want to use. Don't worry about graphics or sound settings at this stage, use the default settings.
Press Escape to get back to the main menu and select 'Single Race' and pick a car (any) and track (Bristol...its short). You will be taken to the race day screen. Click on 'Setup' and change Realism to Expert mode. You should ensure that Flags are set to None. You can also reduce the number of laps to a small number so the test race will not take too long. It is also advisable that you turn down the number of cars at this stage.
Press Escape to get back to the race day screen and select 'Race'. Complete a short race and exit right out of the game.
Installation of NASCAR Heat is now complete, and you can move onto installing the mod you wish
Nascar Heat Essentials
Download and install Nascar Heat Essentials allowing the file to install to the default location.
NB - If your on Windows Vista or Windows 7 you must do the following in order to get the game to work online before continuing.
- Right click the Mod Launcher and or Nascar Heat icon on your desktop
- Click Properties
- Click the Compatibility tab at the top
- Check the 'Run this program in compatibilty mode for:' box then select Windows 2000
- Check the 'Run this program as an administrator' box at the bottom
- Click apply. Then Click Show Settings For All Users
- Check the 'Run this program in compatibilty mode for:' box then select Windows 2000
- Check the 'Run this program as an administrator' box at the bottom
- Click apply.
- Click Ok then Ok again.
You should now continue to download and install the 1.72e patch - heatpatch1_72e.exe to ensure your game will be compatible online with our servers.
To check your game has patched properly, launch the game and click options - the bottom right corner of the screen will show a version number. This should be 1.72.

Download and run the single install executable of the mod you wish to install.
The installer will ask you for your NASCAR Heat install folder - the default location is "C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat". Don't worry when it warns you that the folder already exists - it is meant to!
The files are then copied.
When the files have finished copying the installer needs to do some clever stuff which it does by running three batch files - you will see three DOS command prompt windows appear and disappear. This is meant to happen, don't panic!
When the install has completed you should have a icon on your desktop.
Install all the updates, patches & skinpacks in the same way as the "main" file.
